DON’T WORRY …. WE GOT YOUR BACK

The West Harlem Art Fund is expanding its practice with urban art interventions. Our first will be an eyebombing at Riverside Park North.

Eyebombing is the art of sticking “googly eyes” onto an inanimate object in the public sphere, in a way that cleverly lends the object the appearance of a living creature. We will hosting a workshop on Saturday December 7th at noon in Harlem at Artists & Craftman Supplies, 2108 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd, New York, NY 10027. Come out and be an artist for a day.

DON’T WORRY… WE GOT YOUR BACK conceived by Savona Bailey-McClain will be installed along the Hudson River in Riverside Park North in West Harlem. By eye bombing the base of ten park trees to convey a message that is neither preachy nor judgmental, meaningful interactions could occur between local residents that are both fun and exciting. The goal of this intervention is to challenge prevailing views on how a community can best be supportive of each other. Several communities share the parklands along the Hudson River north of 125th Street. Access has improved tremendously but more is needed. Yet, with all of the improvements, limited connection has been made with the residents of West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood. It is the hope of the organizers that this installation could encourage residents to talk about land use as well as changing demographics, safety and its economic future. It’s not uncommon for city landscapes to be used in order to reshape human experiences.
